The Green Heart does not exist; the green heart which is described in policy documents and which is dreamed by environmentalists, residents and interest groups is an illusion. However, a range of smaller elements does exist. The Green Heart is full of barriers; roads, railways, business parks, ambitious aldermen and (messy) urban areas.
Because of these barriers a number of separate elements are created; pieces of the GreenHeart without a connection or continuous landscape, this is the biggest problem of the Green Heart.
In addition, the agricultural function of the Green Hear has changed; Yet the decline of this function in the past decades was not necessarily constant; green developments will have to allow – or offer – room to possible changes.
