Fifty years of unregulated urban growth has resulted in a scattered Flemmish landscape focused on car mobility. Over the next 30 years, Flanders needs to built 330.000 houses.
We developed an intensification strategy based on sustainable local supply of water, energy and food joining compact city ideas with smart transformation of the energy landscape while retaining and strengthening the valuable characteristics of the Flemish city and landscape. The video we produced explains the model and is used today by urbanists all over Flanders as an instructional video on how to deal with intensification. The video was showcased on the main exposition of the 5th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam (IABR 2012).
