Energylandscapes Flanders

Commissioned by Space Flanders, Vlaams Bouwmeester Team, VITO and VLM , the project Energy Landscapes Flanders explores the spatial impact of the transition to renewable energy for Flanders, and the opportunities it brings.
A characterization of landscape types, the potential of renewable energy sources, and a comprehensive analysis of the spatial conditions for implementation, form the basis of a data model that maps the potential for
renewable energy.
Data from the model forms the basis for design research on two locations where the spatial integration of renewable energy in the Flemish countryside is tested. The research has resulted in a scope of ways in which the implementation can generate economic, ecological, social, environmental and policy value.
